About the Commission
The Truth Commission is a bipartisan body, passed unanimously by the New Mexico House of Representatives in February 2026.
Rep. Andrea Romero
Romero (D-Santa Fe, District 46) is a licensed attorney, Stanford graduate, and fourth-term state legislator who originated and championed the creation of the Truth Commission. As Chair of the House Rules Committee and Vice-Chair of the Judiciary Committee, she has spent her legislative career advancing equity-driven policy across healthcare, child welfare, housing, and human rights.
She launched this Commission because New Mexicans deserve a full accounting of what happened at Zorro Ranch and the systemic failures that allowed it to go unchecked for decades.
